Jon R. Schulz, MS

Expertise: Sustainability, systems design, ZERI
Jon excels at of sustainable business development, ecological law, biomimicry, and ecomimicry, systems design, ZERI (Total Resource Productivity), project and risk management. Jon's engaging and thought provoking presentations help people expand their understanding, consider their beliefs, and move toward living and doing business in ways that work in all the ways that matter (environmentally, socially, and economically) (i.e., sustainably). Jon, a certified ZERI Systems Designer, has operated a zero waste agricultural processing plant, worked on Skylab in aerospace systems engineering and is a lifelong student of consciousness and an ordained Minister of The Universal Brotherhood.
Education / Credentials:
MS in Systems Management Originally trained in ecology, microbiology and biochemistry (B.S.), Jon began his career successfully operating a zero waste agricultural processing plant. He then applied his skills in aerospace systems engineering for the next 21 years. He designed and managed development of complex systems. He worked on Skylab and was part of the team that put the Viking Landers on Mars. He worked on launch vehicles, satellites and strategic systems, life support systems for space stations, long space missions, and planetary bases, and has assessed and mitigated environmental impacts of large projects. He has designed advanced water and waste treatment systems for ground and space.
JON is passionately interested in helping people live and do business in ways that work in all the ways that matter (environmentally, socially, and economically) so that we, like the rest of nature, start creating conditions conducive to life. This, he believes, is the key to thriving in the future. Starting a Systems Design business in 1993, he designed super energy efficient off-grid homes and directed non-profits promoting sustainability. In 1997 he began a major research & development effort addressing the question of how to create communities, regions, and businesses that work in every way that matters. This included new ways of organizing and practical ways to achieve economic prosperity and Total Resource Productivity (TRP / zero waste). TRP includes all resources. Working on these issues convinced him that one of the significant barriers facing all of us is that many of us have belief systems that do not serve us. He was certified as a ZERI Systems Designer in 2002 (ZERI is an international organization helping people meet their needs and solve economic and resource problems by designing zero waste systems all over the world). He has taught sustainability to environmental, civil, and architectural engineering students.
